with physical, mental and emotional challenges
Dart is a Percheron, Thoroughbred cross. He is our biggest therapy horse. Dart was donated to our program so that we could continue to give lessons to our ever growing riders! Dart likes to moan and groan throughout the lessons (making his riders laugh) to let us know he thinks he's working too hard but will happily take on extra lessons if needed. He has a handsome face that draws everyone in to pet him. Dart is owned by Athelas Therapeutic Riding Inc.
Nemo is a quarter horse pony that was recently brought into the program. He has a more western training background which has been great for our little riders. Nemo has a very patient demeanor. He is great for leadline lessons and also for beginner independent lessons for our younger riders. Nemo came to Athelas with a different name but once you see him, you'll see why the name "Nemo" fits! He is a red/orange color with a big white stripe down the middle of his face... he looks like Nemo the clown fish. Our riders love to meet Nemo and Nemo loves meeting new friends! Nemo is owned by Athelas Therapeutic Riding Inc.
Powder is a Appaloosa with a pretty grey coat. Powder has had many foals before joining our therapy program which allows her to be a wonderful "mother figure" to her riders. She is very cautious and mindful of keeping her riders safe and happy. Powder is the therapy horse that carries our independent seat therapy saddle. Not every horse is suited to carry this saddle due to its bulk, weight, and clunky noises. Powder is always willing because she will do whatever is best for her human friends.
Tyler's breed is a Draft, Thoroughbred cross. Tyler is one of our biggest therapy horses and has been a lesson horse for the majority of his career. He is a wonderful lesson horse because of the way he is able to "ground out" the riders emotions helping them to relax. Tyler is also able to sense when a rider is going to have a seizure. He can do it all - anything from leadline lessons to independent lessons and he also jumps. Tyler has a sweet tooth for peppermints or any other treat you have!
ND is a Halflinger pony that is being leased to Athelas to use in our lesson program. ND is our newest lesson horse and is fitting in very nicely! He is blind in one eye but that doesn't stop him from working and is a fun ride with lots of movement. ND enjoys the lessons where he gets to go outside with his riders. He finds hula hoops fasincating and likes when his riders play games. ND also knows how to drive/pull a cart. He has been a great additon to the program.
Cosmo is Percheron, Thoroughbred cross. He was dontated to the program by Tish Roach and has been a huge asset. Cosmo's background is dressage training which has been very beneficial to our more independent riders. He is a steady ride and has very comfortable walk, trot, and canter gaits. Due to his larger size, his movments are big which allows for more sensory input for his riders. Cosmo has a special trick he uses to ask for treats. He makes a "spitting" noise with his lips and it is so funny! His riders love to hear and see him ask for treats! Cosmo is owned by Athelas Therpeutic Riding Inc.
